Internal Complaint Committee(ICC)

Government Degree College, Salooni firmly upholds a Zero Tolerance Policy against any form of sexual harassment. In compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and the UGC Regulations, 2015, the college has established an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to address and prevent incidents of sexual harassment among students and staff.

🎯 Aims and Responsibilities of the ICC:

  • To enforce the provisions laid down under the above-mentioned Act and UGC guidelines.
  • To design and implement a comprehensive policy to safeguard women from harassment
  • To set up a lasting framework for preventing and resolving complaints related to sexual misconduct and gender-based offenses.
  • To ensure timely and transparent handling of complaints and follow-ups.
  • To reinforce the college’s dedication to a gender-equitable and respectful educational environment.
  • To maintain a safe and inclusive atmosphere across the campus that actively discourages inappropriate behaviour.
  • To raise awareness about the many forms of sexual harassment through educational initiatives.
  • To investigate reported incidents in a fair, unbiased, and confidential manner, and to take appropriate action.
  • To nurture an institutional culture that values dignity, security, and mutual respect.
  • To promote activities and programs focused on gender sensitization and the empowerment of women.
  • To assist complainants in approaching legal authorities, should they choose to pursue action outside the institution.
  • To foster a dialogue-driven approach to resolving disputes, while ensuring justice and protecting the rights of all parties involved.

🟣 Understanding Sexual Harassment:

Sexual harassment includes any form of unwelcome behaviour with a sexual undertone that makes an individual feel degraded, intimidated, or threatened. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Unwanted verbal, non-verbal, or physical actions of a sexual nature
  • Requests or demands for sexual favours
  • Sexually suggestive or inappropriate comments
  • Uninvited physical contact or gestures
  • Displaying or sharing offensive content or pornography

Such acts may also involve:

  • Promises of benefits or favourable treatment in return for compliance
  • Threats or intimidation related to job or academic status
  • Creation of a hostile, uncomfortable, or offensive environment
  • Behaviour that undermines a person’s mental or physical well-being or personal dignity

Filing a Complaint

  • Any female student or woman employee facing harassment can submit a complaint in writing to the Internal Complaints Committee within three months of the incident (or of the most recent occurrence, in case of a repeated pattern).
  • If filing in writing is not possible, the complainant may reach out to any ICC member personally.
