Institutional Legitimacy under UGC Act

Government Degree College, Salooni, located in the rural region of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh, is a recognized institution under the provisions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956.

The college has to receive the following statutory recognitions:

• UGC 2(f) Status
  The college is yet to be recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, which will affirm its eligibility as a higher education institution affiliated to a recognized university (Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla).
• UGC 12(B) Status
  The college is also yet to be approved under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. This status will qualify the institution (after getting approval from UGC) to receive central assistance and development grants from the UGC and other central funding agencies, including schemes such as; RUSA and others.

These recognitions will ensure the college's eligibility for academic development programs (after the approval), faculty welfare schemes, student support initiatives, and infrastructure funding provided by the UGC and Government of India.

Such approvals will also reflect the compliance of the college with national higher education standards and its commitment to offering quality, inclusive, and affordable education to students from remote and under-served areas. Further, the institution understand that recognition under 2(f) and 12(B) is a testament to the college’s adherence to academic and administrative standards set by the UGC.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government Degree College, Salooni, Chamba, plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of quality and innovation within the institution and working to ensure quality and excellence in higher education. Formed as per the recommendations of the NAAC, the IQAC serves as the central body for planning, guiding, and monitoring all academic and administrative activities that aim to enhance institutional performance.
