Central Facilities
Supporting Academic Excellence and Student Welfare
Government Degree College, Salooni, is dedicated to providing a supportive learning environment through a variety of essential facilities that aid academic progress and overall student development. Central facilities available at GDC are being described briefly as follows:
- Library Services
The college houses a well-maintained central library having more than 2000 books on different subjects which include an extensive collection of textbooks, reference works, periodicals, and newspapers in both English and Hindi. It operates using e-Granthalaya software and provides students and faculty access to e-resources through the INFLIBNET N-LIST platform. A reading space is also available for quiet study and research.
- Smart Classrooms
Selected classrooms are equipped with digital teaching aids such as projectors, smart boards, and sound systems. These tools support modern teaching methods and promote interactive and multimedia-based instruction.
- Computer Lab
The college features a computer laboratory furnished with internet access and essential hardware and software. It serves as a training space for students, especially those enrolled in skill-based or computer-related courses.
- Multipurpose Seminar Hall
The seminar hall is used for hosting academic events, workshops, guest lectures, cultural programs, and training sessions. It is equipped with audio-visual aids to support diverse activities and is often used for RUSA-funded events.
- Career Guidance and Placement Cell
An active career cell provides counselling, skill-building workshops, and employment guidance. The cell works closely with the District Employment Exchange, Chamba, and other agencies to support students in their career planning.
- Central Store and Stationery Services
A central stockroom ensures the availability and distribution of teaching materials, stationery, and administrative supplies for staff and students as required.
- Common Rooms
Separate common rooms for male and female students offer a comfortable space for relaxation and interaction. The girls’ room is equipped with basic hygiene and emergency care facilities.
- Health and First-Aid Services
Basic first-aid support is available on campus. In case of medical emergencies, assistance is coordinated with the nearby Primary Health Centre (PHC) or Civil Hospital in Salooni.
- Sports and Recreation
The college encourages student participation in physical activities. It provides a sports ground for games such as cricket, volleyball, and kabaddi, along with indoor games like chess and carrom.
- RUSA Infrastructure Support
With funding support from RashtriyaUchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the college has developed ICT-enabled classrooms, library infrastructure, faculty development resources, and other learning facilities.
- Student Welfare Committees
To ensure student support and wellbeing, the college maintains:
- A Grievance Redressal Mechanism
- Anti-Ragging Cell
- Women Empowerment Cell
- Welfare Committees for SC/ST and Minorities
- NSS, Red Ribbon Club, and Eco Club for extracurricular and outreach activities
These facilities aim to build a well-rounded academic environment that nurtures intellectual, social, and personal growth among students.
