National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Government Degree College Salooni is a flagship initiative aimed at nurturing the spirit of Social Service Through Community Service among the students. Rooted in the motto "Not Me, But You," the NSS inspires students to embrace selflessness and actively contribute to societal progress.

History & Background:

Established on 24th September 1969, the National Service Scheme was introduced by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, as a platform for students to engage in meaningful community service and nation-building. Over the period of time, it has become a widespread movement, empowering young volunteers to address societal challenges with compassion and innovation.

Membership:

Students from the first and second years of undergraduate programs at Government Degree College Salooni are eligible to enrol in NSS as volunteers. Membership offers them a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, foster teamwork, and actively participate in community-driven projects.

To earn NSS certification, volunteers are required to:

  • Complete a minimum of 240 hours of regular activities committed to community service during their two year’s membership. Only after the completion of 240 hours of regular activities, volunteer of NSS allowed to attend/participate in annual camp. The regular activities are to be completed/executed in campus as well as in adopted area.
  • Attend at least one Special Annual Camp during three years stay in the college.

Activities & Impact:

The NSS unit at Government Degree College Salooni organizes a diverse range of activities, including:

  • Awareness campaigns on public health, road safety, environmental conservation, and disaster preparedness.
  • Participation in plantation drives, blood donation camps, and community cleanliness programs.
  • Skill-building and enhancing seminars aimed at developing leadership and social engagement competencies.

Objectives:

  • Promote the dignity of the college through service-oriented actions.
  • Empower communities by addressing local challenges and creating sustainable solutions.
  • Foster a sense of democratic living and mutual respect through collaborative initiatives.
  • Cultivate responsible citizenship among students by connecting education with service.
